Lake Kawaguchi (河口湖) is to the north of Mount Fuji and it is quite inconvenient to get to from Osaka (mostly due to about 2 hour bus ride from the Mishima shinkansen station). Most of the time there I've spent on the top of Mount Tenjo (conveniently accessible by a ropeway), admiring the views of Mount Fuji. Another interesting place in the town is the Yamanashi Gem Museum, where one can see amazing specimens of rocks and get some not-too-bad souvenirs. Returning back through Tokyo offers some great views of Mount Fuji as well.
