Nachi-no-taki waterfall (那智の滝) is a relatively unknown destination, which I personally consider unfair from one side (as it is, I think, one of the most magnificent sights in Japan) and appropriate from the other side (as there is no traditional 'tourist circus' that gets me annoyed to some extent in other, more popular, places). It is the largest waterfall in Japan, 133 m high and 13 m wide and is the religious origin for the shrine and the Seigantoji Temple. It is also the primary object of worship and after spending an hour and a half in one spot, simply admiring the view - I hope I understand why... The waterfall is half an hour bus ride from Kii-Katsuura JR station with buses running about once an hour. The interesting point - the 'Kuroshio' express that I was planning to take back to Osaka was cancelled, so I've spent some time in Katsuura (勝浦) and found it to be a very plesant town with a nice fishing harbour and a nice eatery (as some of the photos on the site show).
