Matsushima (松島), or 'Pine-clad Islands' are considered to be one of the three most beautiful views in Japan (two others are 'Bridge to Heaven' in Amanohashidate and 'Floating Torii' at Miyajima Island). The pier from which most of signseeing boats depart is about 15 minutes walk from the Matsushima-kaigan station and right next to it is one of the most famous views - the Godaido shrine that can be accessed via two short bridges. There is also a toll bridge to Fukuura island - for a small fee (¥300 if I remember it correctly) you can cross to the island and wander along numerous paths or just have a stroll around the Fukuura Island.
