Photos taken in the Grand View Garden in Beijing in October 2006. This is actually my favourite place in town and it is the most tranquil park I've been to for a very long time... No tourists as well - I mean: I did not see a single one (not even mentioning the large 'busloads' of people). Just normal people - grandparents and a small child feeding the goldfish, war veterans playing chess, free outdoor entertainment for the people, dancing, music, fire eating, etc...
A side note: I think people visiting Beijing and missing places like that are missing the essence of the place. I personally reckon that in most organised tours the people are hurdled into flocks and are running from an attraction to an attraction without much sense, taking photos of everything (and themselves) in the process... Some people would not understand it, but I actually sat on the rock where the girls sits (on the photo below) for about an hour - taking everything "in"; and still regret that I did not spend another hour or two at the very same place...
